What is a carbon footprint?
Mike Berners-Lee, the author of The Carbon Footprint of Everything, defines carbon footprint as "The total of all the greenhouse gas emissions that had to take place for a product to be produced or for an activity to take place."
Simply, the term expresses the impact of activities and products like transportation, usage of household energy, and food. Reducing an individual carbon footprint depends on the discrete action one partakes. For example, a small decision like where you travel or how you travel can have a significant impact on your carbon footprint.
Travel: One of the major factors contributing to C02 emissions
According to Andrew Murphy, an aviation manager at Transport and Environment,
"Flying is the cheapest and the quickest way to warm the planet"
Thus, one of the effective ways in minimizing your carbon footprint is to reduce your travel.
To be precise, traveling is not always necessary to get the job done. So, before you book your business flight, ask yourself the reason for flying and what if a video call can replace it. Therefore, we performed our first carbon footprint assessment and AMA has been involved in a responsible purchasing program where we are increasing local purchases by 34%. There is an internal committee creating an awareness campaign on soft mobility and carpooling, teleworking, and organizing different awareness activities like cleaning up challenge, waste management, etc.
Recently, we determined our "raison d'être" or sense of purpose as "Enhancing professional life while preserving the planet".

Solvay
Before the pandemic, Solvay Materials Italy used to host an on-site tour of their application development lab for their remotely located clients and colleagues.
